The Messinian Association Hawks Football Club (MAHFC) was first established in 1987. As the name suggests our club was derived from the Messinian Association of South Australia, a strong social organisation supported by members with ethnic origin from the southern Greek province of Messinia. The MAHFC are a social/sporting club under the umbrella of the Messinian Association and enjoy the support of the Association. Like the Association the MAHFC are a non profit organisation that has maintained its viability through efforts of its committee and coaching staff.
Since its inception, our club has experienced mixed on-field fortunes. In 1987, the MAHFC entered the South Australian Amateur Soccer League in Sunday Division 5. In 1991, the MAHFC transferred to Saturday Division 2 whereby the club rapidly evolved, culminating in a league championship and promotion to the first division in 1993. In the subsequent years, despite finishing in modest positions, it failed to achieve premiership success and was unfortunately relegated to division 2 following its 9th place finish in season 2000. Our club has since thrived on its loyal support, and has rebuilt a squad of players with quality, depth, and skill who passionately share our endeavour in becoming a powerful force in the South Australian Amateur Soccer League. Their effort was rewarded last season with dual premiership success and promotion to division one in 2004. The MAHFC philosophy is simple and is primarily focused on player enjoyment. When you join or support the Hawks, you not only participate in a club that strives for success, but you join a social culture that is truly unique. The MAHFC also considers itself as playing an important community role. Its relocation to King's Reserve Torrensville (adjacent Thebarton Oval) in 2002 and strong support by the by City of West Torrens Council, has allowed our club to achieve its goal in providing a means for the youth of the West Torrens district to actively participate in sport. Our close liaison with council has also permitted the upgrade of various community sporting facilities at King's Reserve. Finally, the MAHFC prides itself on its social prowess. From casual match-day barbecues to formal evening functions, the Hawks are renown for their ability to host a good show, and are committed in ensuring that you have an enjoyable experience. |
